Current Status
Millour Hill Community Wind Farm became operational in May 2012.
Project Information
Millour Hill Community Wind Farm was given planning consent by North Ayrshire Council in May 2010. The wind farm has an installed capacity of 18MW to generate clean, green electricity.
Site Location
Millour Hill Community Wind Farm is located in North Ayrshire, 5km north west of Dalry and 6.5km west of Kilbirnie. The wind farm lies adjacent to Community Windpower’s operational Dalry Community Wind Farm.
Wind Farm Layout
Millour Hill Community Wind Farm comprises of six Siemens Direct Drive wind turbines. These wind turbines have a tip height of 125 metres and each has a generating capacity of 3MW.
Environmental Benefits
Millour Hill Community Wind Farm generates enough electricity to power approximately 11,800 homes and displaces around 20,300 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per annum.
Economic Benefits
Millour Hill Community Wind Farm provides annual community benefit funding equivalent to £5,000 per MW of installed capacity for the planning permission of the wind farm. Based on an installed capacity of 18MW, this equates to £90,000 per annum, totalling around £2.25 million during the 25 year operational period, for the local host communities. Community benefit funding from Millour Hill is administered by the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust.
