Dalry
Current Status
Dalry Community Wind Farm became operational in June 2006.
Project Information
Dalry Community Wind Farm was given planning consent by North Ayrshire Council in June 2003. The wind farm has an installed capacity of 18MW to generate clean, green electricity.
Site Location
Dalry Community Wind Farm is located in North Ayrshire, 5km north west of Dalry and 6.5km west of Kilbirnie.
Wind Farm Layout
Dalry Community Wind Farm comprises of six Vestas V90 wind turbines. These wind turbines have a tip height of 125 metres and each has a generating capacity of 3MW.
Environmental Benefits
Dalry Community Wind Farm generates enough electricity to power approximately 11,800 homes and displaces around 20,300 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per annum.
In October 2021, through a deal brokered by EDF, Community Windpower began delivering renewable wind energy from its Dalry (Wardlaw Wood) Community Wind Farm to Edrington Distilleries.
The entire 50GWh output of the six turbines will be provided annual for the next four years to Edrington distilleries and joint venture North British Distillery sites in Edinburgh and West Lothian.
This site will continue to displace approximately 20,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum, while supporting Edrington meet their ambition of being carbon neutral by 2030.
The signed power purchase agreement (PPA) means that all Edrington’s Scottish distilleries, The Macallan, Highland Park and The Glenrothes, as well as their production sites including The Clyde Cooperage and Great Western Road bottling facility will be supplied with energy produced by wind turbines.
Economic Benefits
Dalry Community Wind Farm provides annual community benefit funding equivalent to £2,500 per MW of installed capacity for the planning permission of the wind farm. Based on an installed capacity of 18MW, this equates to £45,000 per annum, totalling around £1.13 million during the 25 year operational period, for the local host communities.
