Thistleknowe Care Home residents benefit from Covid-19 Crisis Fund

Covid-19 fund North Ayrshire

Maintaining contact with the outside world is recognised as being vitally important for residents in a care setting, which is why we’re pleased to be helping another care home to help its residents keep in touch with family and friends during the Covid-19 crisis.

Together with the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust, our Covid-19 crisis fund has provided £1,100 to Thistleknowe Care Home in Beith, to help residents communicate beyond the walls of the care home and keep in contact with the outside world.

The money will be used to purchase a number of devices to ensure every person in the care home can see and talk to their friends and family, without worry about issues with connectivity or keeping up to date with each other’s lives.

Many care home residents in North Ayrshire, either permanent or temporary, are facing weeks or even months without seeing relatives.

Thistleknowe Care Home wants to ensure residents don’t feel separated from family and friends, and feel part of the community.

This is difficult to achieve at the best of times due to the perception that the person in care might not recognise family members, which is why voice and video calls can be so important.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Millour Hill and Dalry Community Wind Farms in North Ayrshire, said: “During this time of social separation, people in care homes are finding themselves very restricted on physical visitors.

“They rely on technology and each other for entertainment and keeping in touch with friends and family.

“This is why, together with the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust, we agreed to help Thistleknowe Care Home.

“We hope the items purchased through our funding will help make a difference to the lives of the residents and their families, in this difficult time.”
