Kieran Walker received a £2,000 grant from Community Windpower, through the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust (DPBT), to help with competing at the European Teamgym Championships.

Dalry’s own Kieran Walker and his Scottish compatriots recently took 4th place at the European Teamgym Championships, in Guimaraes, Portugal.

The DPBT provided Kieran with a £2,000 grant, from Community Windpower’s Dalry, Millour Hill and Millour Hill Extension Wind Farms community benefit fund, to help with his travel expenses for the Championship.

Kieran, who started his journey at Dalry Primary School, has had a busy 2021. His year started in lockdown, due to the pandemic, training to maintain his fitness five times a week via Zoom calls.

After the lockdown Kieran and his team were able to get back to competing, starting with the Northern Qualifiers, which were judged remotely. Kieran and his team qualified for the British Teamgym Championships, in Stoke-on-Trent, for the first time. The team placed seventh and were the only team to represent Scotland for their level.

Kieran and his teammates from Largs Gymnastics Club also attended the British Gymnastics Zonal Camp, at the Irvine Bay Gymnastics Club, where they trained with leading figures at Teamgym GB.

The year finished with Kieran and 7 other Scottish representatives competing at the European Teamgym Championships where they were able to test themselves against other European countries.

Kieran Walker, Scottish Gymnast, said: “The European Teamgym Championship was like no other competition in my gymnastics career so far.

“To see my name and picture in lights for all to see and to have the event streamed online was a feeling like no other”.

“I would like to say a special thank you to the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust and Community Windpower for their donation which made all this happen”.

Diane Wood, Community Benefits Director at Community Windpower, said: “We are proud of Kieran and his teammates for their brilliant fourth place at the European Teamgym Championships.

“I am pleased our donation was able to give Kieran this wonderful opportunity and that it has provided him with valuable experience for his gymnastics career”.

“On behalf of Community Windpower we wish Kieran all the best with his endeavors and his exciting journey”.
