Sanquhar Wind Farm delighted to support the Upper Nithsdale Youth Pipe Band – 27th July 2018

The Upper Nithsdale Youth Pipe Band provided an amazing performance by serenading the guests as they arrived at Sanquhar Wind Farm’s Opening event in early July.
All guests were delighted by the playing standard, professionalism and appearance of the Youth Band, with many saying it made the day, by adding ‘Scottish Sounds’ to the occasion. Several overseas guests had never heard the pipes before and were charmed by their sounds.
So taken with the efforts or the Youth Band, Community Windpower, the owners and operators of the Wind Farm, were delighted to support them with a donation of £500.00.
The Upper Nithsdale Youth Pipe Band has been giving free bagpipe and drum tuition to young people in Upper Nithsdale for almost 10 years. Run by Andy Williamson, pictured on the right receiving the cheque, commented; ‘It was a super event up at the Wind Farm and we were delighted to be part of the celebrations. It means a lot to the band to be appreciated and told how good everybody thought they were, the team put in a significant amount of time practicing and are well organised.’The band attend various local events, including the annual Sanquhar’s Riding of the Marches and Kirkconnel and Kelloholm’s Children’s Gala, as well as taking part in many competitions.
The Sanquhar Community Wind farm was constructed during 2017/8 and is now operational in Dumfries and Galloway. It features 9 Vestas V112 turbines and Scottish steel towers from CS Wind UK from Campbeltown Argyle. The clean green energy produced is used by Nestle UK and I and provides 50% of their UK electricity needs. Community Windpower have worked with their host communities and groups in the area since the initial scheme was put forward some years ago and were delighted that the scheme received no objections during the planning process. The scheme will operate for at least 25 years providing some £4m in community benefits over that time.
