Over £250,000 of community benefits provided by Community Windpower in Spring 2021

Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) have delivered over £250,000 of community benefit funds in Spring 2021 this year to the various Host Communities of CWL’s seven operational wind farms in Scotland.

This substantial amount of funding was delivered to the Host Communities across Scotland at the end of March 2021. The bi-annual funding provides support to the economic, environmental, and social requirements of our host communities throughout the operational lifetime of the wind farms. It enables Host Communities to plan ahead and deliver legacy projects in their community for all to enjoy.

CWL’s community benefits have supported a range of different groups including schools, charities, community groups, and local organisations. The year has been particularly difficult due to the pandemic, and the funding provided by CWL has helped many organisations to adapt and pull through these challenging times.

Up to the end of August 2020, CWL have donated £5 million to host communities of our portfolio of onshore wind farm projects. During the Covid-19 pandemic CWL also set aside £255,000 of financial support across these areas, to support organisations who have been directly impacted by the crisis.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower said: “It is a fantastic sum of money that has been provided to our various host communities.

“We have been actively supporting the local communities over the last 15 years and we are pleased that our continued support is bolstering the economic, social and environmental status of our operational wind farms host communities during the first three months of 2021.

“This past year has been a challenge for all organisations, but we have been pleased to continue our support as well as provide further funding through our Covid-19 Crisis Fund. This has enabled us to directly bolster the local areas, while supporting those organisations who need it most.”
