Fun times for Dunbar Civic Week!

Banner

Since 1970, Dunbar has celebrated a Civic Week every year, where fun and educational events are organised by people in the community. The Covid-19 pandemic sadly stalled these historic celebrations for the past two years, but this June the community of Dunbar were back in full force.

Whilst Civic Week was devised over 50 years ago, the main message of the celebrations has stayed the same: get involved and have fun!

Across the week, there was a multitude of events including the Crowning of the Civic Week Queen and the Royal Court, with children chosen at random from Dunbar Primary School for these roles.

Dunbar Civic Week was launched with a community parade and the first day of celebrations ended with Summer Sounds in the Park, where children and families enjoyed food, drinks, music, games and more.

Other events during the week included daily craft sessions, quizzes, bowling and pétanque competitions, a football festival, and a multidenominational Thanksgiving Service to mark the end of Dunbar Civic Week.

Some of the events also supported charitable causes such as Cancer Research, and attendees of the free Civic Week celebrations supported the organisers with donations. The amazing range of events and activities ensured that there was something for everyone to enjoy!

Anouska Woods, BeGreen Dunbar Community Coordinator, said: “Civic Week is always an event which enriches the local community, and it has been sorely missed for the last two years.

“We were so thrilled to be able to celebrate once again; spending time with friends, family and neighbours has never felt better! I would like to say a big thank you to those who helped fund the celebrations, and all the individuals who organised events and volunteered their time to make this Civic Week such a special and fun time.

“We were eager to help with the £1,000 donation towards the marquee costs and I would like to give a special thanks to the RNLI for trying to put up our CWL banner in the wind.”
