Family Open Day at Aikengall Community Wind Farms proves a huge success - 4th July

PR

Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar were delighted to open our Aikengall Windfarm to the public on Saturday 24th of June. It’s been a good couple of years since our last open day so we were very excited when it was announced that June 2017 was given the go ahead to open our gates and welcome the community to a free, fun filled day out. And what an open day it was!!

Over 700 people attended the sunny day, we were lucky with the weather, a little windy but it is a wind farm after all!!  The fun-filled day had plenty of things to do for visitors of all ages and everyone had an opportunity to explore the wind farm.

Activities on the day included archery, an outdoor climbing wall, children’s rides and carousels, a balloon modeller, beat the goalie and lots more!! The event was also accompanied by an enjoyable roadshow from East Coast FM, keeping the crowds entertained throughout the day.

Innerwick Primary School pupil, Jennifer, was presented with her prize as she had won the Open Day Poster Competition earlier in the year. The magnificent artwork was chosen to promote the event and used on all the posters, leaflets and adverts. Jennifer was particularly excited to see her design on a huge banner displayed in Dunbar High Street, well done Jennifer!!

There was also a variety of stands and stalls on offer both inside and outside of the marquee with local crafts and produce. Home Energy Scotland were also on hand to answer any questions. As well as local charities including the Dunbar Parish Church and the Dunbar Colts 2004 Football team who raised a whopping £300 on their stall!! Well done 04s!!  A particular favourite was the animal handling sessions. Becky from Animates was on hand with her snakes, lizards and a giant millipede, it’s safe to say a lot of people overcame their snake fear that day!

The marquee also provided visitors with an opportunity to learn more about Aikengall I & II Windfarms and the work that BeGreen Dunbar does around the local community. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces that have popped in to BeGreen over the years.

As always, the complimentary BBQ and drinks on offer saw plenty of people throughout the day with a sizeable queue to match. The burgers provided by Lyntoun Butchers in East Linton proved to be a big hit!!

Community Windpower are delighted that the day was such a success with a high turnout of visitors, a huge variety of stalls and activities on offer.  We would like to thank all those who attended and helped make the Family Open Day such a brilliant day.
