Dunbar's Murdo Watson returns to the slopes

At Community Windpower we have recently renewed our commitment to skier Murdo Watson’s endeavours by providing him with another annual sponsorship donation of £2500. This money is essential as it goes towards the costs of his sporting passion, such as the purchasing of high-quality kit and the travel logistics around sporting competitions.

We were very saddened to hear that, in November 2021, Murdo suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) which required surgery and extensive rehabilitation. Whilst these injuries are devastating, Murdo received excellent care from knee surgeon Gordon Mackay and physiotherapist Stewart Kerr. After these six months of rehabilitation, Murdo is already making a full recovery and is raring to get back into training with Ambition Racing Academy.

Recently, Murdo attended a training camp at a ski resort on the Stelvio Glacier in Italy, a resort which only opens in summer due to the overwhelming amount of snow it receives during the winter months. There Murdo was engaging with his ‘return to snow’ programme, which ensure an athlete’s safe return to rigorous training following injuries or illness. Murdo is currently out in Zermatt, Switzerland working hard and making excellent progress.

When fully reacclimatised to the racing, Murdo hopes to be able to compete on the European FIS circuit, organised by the International Ski Federation. In the future Murdo hopes to be selected for the British Alpine team, which is an amazing goal and would mean he could compete internationally on the world stage.

Murdo Watson said: “I am super happy to be back on my skis after a long stint off due to injury.  It was a tough time for me, but I have come out of the other side feeling much stronger than before.  I am feeling very excited about the season ahead and extremely motivated to achieve the best I can.  I am so grateful to BeGreen for their continued support in helping me achieve my dream.”

Diane Wood, Community Benefits Director at Community Windpower, said: “We are delighted to continue our support for such a talented and dedicated athlete. Outside of training and rehabilitation, Murdo focused on revising and working hard for his Higher exams. We wish him every success this summer, for his Higher results and further study, and into the next competition season. Go Murdo!”
