Dunbar SciFest 2016 - 15th March
Community Windpower were delighted to support the 6th annual Dunbar SciFest held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th March this year. With SciFest being in its 6th year it has gone from strength to strength. What started as a Sunday afternoon event in one hall has exploded into a mass of hands on activities, workshops and stage shows throughout the John Muir Campus, two marquees and the Bleachingfield Community Centre.
Community Windpower provided funding of £3,500 again this year to fund the two fantastic marquees which housed an array of hands on fun from chicks to making your own kite; these were a particular favourite amongst the children!
Not forgetting our very own Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar stand which provided lots of hands on activities, energy efficiency information, a chance to build your own turbine and our annual ‘Draw a Wind Farm’ competition. Again this year there was a huge amount of fabulous entries - pink turbines, flower turbines, the list goes on and it will be a very hard job to pick a winner!
There was a new addition to the stand this year where you could try on all the wind turbine technician’s climbing and safety gear. The children were delighted to have the opportunity to have all the equipment on and a fair few said that they want to ‘climb turbines when they are older’, great news! Not to miss out the big kids too though, there were a fair few adults testing out the harness and questioning whether they would make it to the top!
The BeGreen section of the stand also went down well. It was full of information on our grants and how we can help with our Energy Advisor on hand to answer any questions. A lot of people came over for a chat on how to access our grants, community funding or just looking for general energy efficiency advice. It is so good that people are becoming more aware of their energy usage and ways they can improve on it, especially as there is help out there.
All in all a great, fun filled weekend that Community Windpower are proud to support and be part of. Here’s to planning for next year!
