Dunbar Nursery supported by BeGreen and Community Windpower Covid-19 crisis fund

Dunbar Nursery

The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting all members of our society, young and old, which is why we agreed to use our joint fund with BeGreen Dunbar to support Dunbar Nursery.

The nursery, based at Dunbar Primary School, is currently looking after a number of children and trying to create a multidisciplinary learning environment for those attending.

It wants to create a lasting memorial to mark the challenges we are currently facing, while also promoting health and wellbeing, and raising awareness of ecological issues and sustainability.

The £2,500 from the Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar Covid-19 crisis fund will help develop a large grassed area into a secured learning space consisting of three different learning environments.

They will include raised beds, a wildlife garden containing a wildflower meadow, bird houses, a bug hotel and bird feeders.

There will also be a natural wooded story garden containing a miniature fruit orchard, natural seating, sensory planting and a fire pit.

Hedgerows and tress are being donated by the Woodland Trust, to help create a positive reminder of Covid-19 and a wildlife and environmentally-friendly legacy.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Aikengall Community Wind Farms in East Lothian, said: “It’s so important we support all members of our communities during this Covid-19 pandemic, which is why we didn’t hesitate when Dunbar Nursery explained what they were planning to do with the funding.

“Children need something to help focus on something positive, to help with their mental health and encourage stimulating activity.

“We know from a future environment perspective, this area of land at the nursery will provide a long-term support to creating a wildlife-friendly and green legacy.

“The £2,500 we’ve provided to is going to make a difference now, and for many years to come.”
