Dunbar girlguiding receives grant to purchase new outdoor equipment

Dunbar Girlguiding

The Rangers and Guides units of the 1st Dunbar Guides is the latest beneficiary of a grant from Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar’s joint Covid-19 crisis fund.

Following the application, a grant of £500 was quickly approved, which will be used to purchase new outdoor equipment for the girls to use for a variety of activities.

Among the items the group needs are an event shelter, waterproof clothing and camping equipment.

They will also provide a lasting resource for camps and other events or meetings the group will carry out, particularly when the Covid-19 restrictions are eased.

Dunbar Girlguiding is open to any female young person aged five to 18 years, with the Guides unit for girls aged 10-14 and the Rangers for girls aged 14-18.

The young people may go on their very first sleepover, canoe on rivers, learn about body confidence, lead their own camp or simply have fun and try new things with other girls their age.

Girls will take what they do in guiding with them as they grow up, developing the skills and confidence that they need to reach their potential - as students, colleagues, parents, friends and members of society.  This can help them become the young women that they want to be.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, said: “The 1st Dunbar Girlguiding Group has provided a vital role for the children of Dunbar during the Covid-19 pandemic at a time when schooling and usual social interactions have been interrupted.

“Indeed, it’s been providing a fantastic platform for young girls to challenge themselves to get out there, do something different and make great friends along the way, for almost 100 years.

“Our community benefit funds, and Covid-19 crisis fund are there to help people and organisations make the most of opportunities available, and we’re delighted to be able to help the 1st Dunbar Girlguiding Group.”
