CWL provides £2,200 to Dunbar Primary for their school fair costs
Dunbar Primary School’s Parent Council, founded in 2007, held Dunbar Primary’s School Fair at Bleachingfield Centre. It was a major event which took place in the heart of Dunbar to raise money for the purchasing of science equipment for the STEM subjects in the Curriculum for Excellence. These will include magnifying glasses, measuring aids, and other technological learning tools.
At a time of inflation, families and school budgets are stretched, meaning the prices of essentials and activities are rising out of people’s reach. To combat this in some way, CWL (through BeGreen Dunbar) have facilitated this community grant of £2,200 to support the costs of the fair, such as the hiring of a climbing wall, the costs of running a sweet stall and BBQ, and the costs of purchasing prizes for winners on the day.
On the day there was a baking competition, a LEGO building challenge, a tombola, a school fair poster competition, and many other delightful games and activities. The Dunbar Primary Parent Council are also committed to supporting the environment, and useful prizes were purchased as opposed to cheaper, single-use items.
Helen Schoen, co-organiser of the Dunbar Primary School Fair, said: “I am delighted BeGreen has supported Dunbar Primary School Fair again this year with a generous grant. At a time when inflation is affecting everyone's budgets, the funding is particularly welcome. It allows us to hold a fair with many 20p stalls ensuring hours of fun for children at a relatively low price. It also means more of the takings can be invested in the education of children in Dunbar, rather than covering the costs of the event. This year the school has asked for money towards resources for teaching science, technology, maths and engineering. Thank you BeGreen for backing this community event and the education of Dunbar's children."
