CWL with the help of Scottish Civils Contractors, RJ McLeod, and Scottish turbine erection experts, Windhoist, have installed the final turbine at the 81.7MW Aikengall IIa onshore wind farm on the border of East Lothian and Scottish Borders.

The project which features 19 Siemens Gamesa, SWT-DD-130 machines, are on track to complete turbine commissioning and final project completion in 2021.

Turbine installation started in early 2021 and despite being in the midst of a global pandemic, all 19 145m to tip turbines have been installed on time.

Array 1 and 2 are now energised and in test mode and the third array are currently going through energization.

Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm will then undergo testing and commissioning before the hand over to CWL later this year.

Ray Ball, Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director at Community Windpower said: “We are very proud of this last achievement especially during unprecedented global conditions.

“Aikengall IIa will be our largest capacity project to date and this new milestone is one last step before the full operation later in 2021.

“Our long-term commitment to Scotland and its economy is reflected in the delivery of this project as well as our three next generation developments currently in planning.

“We look forward to unveiling this major onshore project later in the year and providing green energy for up to 70,000 homes annually”.
