CWL delighted to hear of success story for former placement student - 19th September

In the 5 years since Community Windpower (CWL) first established a partnership with West College Scotland, we have enjoyed hearing about former placement students who have secured employment in their chosen fields once they have concluded their studies.
We are delighted to hear that Nicola Elliot, who undertook a three week placement in October 2016, has recently accepted an offer to study a Controls Engineering graduate level apprenticeship with Amazon. The scheme combines academic learning with practical training to work towards a HNC/D in controls engineering during the first three years and finally a BEng degree in the fourth year. As a Controls Engineering Apprentice, Nicola will be involved in the electrical controls engineering team and carrying out supervised fault finding and projects in Amazon’s existing and new build facilities.
During Nicola’s placement, she assisted both the Projects and Operation Teams to produce operational reports of wind farm data, conduct a site searching exercise to fully understand constraints of project and present her findings to the team, and even helped to provide educational presentations for local primary school children on themes such as sustainability and climate change. The placement also included a site visit to our under construction Sanquhar Community Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway and our operational Dalry and Millour Hill Community Wind Farms in North Ayrshire.
West College Scotland Course Lecturer Tom Haughey commented that Nicola’s “confidence increased as a result of the placement and this was a contributing factor to her success in landing such a wonderful job”. He continued to say that “The placement is of real benefit and ex-placement students have profited enormously”.
CWL would like to wish Nicola and all our previous placement students all the best in their careers after studying, and CWL are already looking forward to welcoming the next students from West College Scotland who are due to begin their placement at the end of October.
