CWL and Sanquhar Academy's Engineers of the Future talk careers! 11th December

Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) was thrilled to visit Sanquhar Academy to deliver workshops on engineering careers in the renewable energy industry.

On Wednesday 11th December, CWL delivered two workshops to students at the Academy who have an interest in physics and engineering. This gave seniors year students (aged 14-16) an insight into the varying and exciting career opportunities in the renewable energy industry such as mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and computer engineers!

One particular highlight for the students was learning about the differing routes into engineering that can help them develop into a career. For example, an engineer in the renewable energy industry can train through apprenticeships, colleges and universities. We also focused on transferable skills that can be acquired in the many engineering fields and it was encouraging to see the students feel more confident in the opportunities they have for their transition.

Highlighting careers in the renewable energy industry is particularly important in the areas we work, such as Sanquhar. Through our ‘Buy Scottish’ initiative we have a clear commitment to invest in the local workforce. Sanquhar II Community Wind Farm is currently in planning and, if approved, it would be fantastic if Sanquhar Academy’s engineers of the future were able to work alongside us during the construction and operation of the wind farm.
