Community Windpower's East Lothian Energy Fund hits £150,000 milestone
We are pleased to announce that our Community Windpower East Lothian Energy Fund, in partnership with Advice Direct Scotland and East Lothian Council, has distributed over £150,000 of the £1 million total amount. The fund has been open since the 1st December, and was established to help people in need in East Lothian who require help with their energy bills this winter.
The fund is due to run until the 31st March 2023. Anyone on means tested benefits can apply, and those with terminal illnesses automatically qualify for help from the Energy Fund. We are working closely with Marie Curie and Macmillan, and we have over 115 other referral partners on board to process and field other applications.
As of the 23rd December 2022, the fund has successfully distributed funding for 264 applications and there is capacity to help many, many more this winter.
East Lothian resident Ben Worobec, 59, said that the grant he received from the energy fund had prevented him from "freezing" this winter. He had been trying to make his Universal Credit payments cover all his outgoings, and he had been keeping his thermostat at just 10 degrees during the cold weather. Ben said: “The award I received through the Community Windpower Energy Fund via the charity Advice Direct Scotland has saved me from freezing or ending up hospitalised with hypothermia in this troubled time and I’m ever so grateful and
indebted for this support that was available.”
