Community Windpower supply green electricity to Scottish whisky distilleries through EDF Energy.

Wardlaw Wood 2

The six-wind turbines at our Wardlaw Wood Community Wind Farm, located outside Dalry, North Ayrshire will supply 50GWh of green electricity to The Macallan and The North British distilleries.

A four-year agreement was brokered by EDF Energy to supply the distilleries with Scottish renewable energy from October 2021. In partnership with Energy Edge Consulting, EDF has been appointed the supplier of choice for Edrington, the company behind the consortium of Scottish distilleries.

The agreement is in place to help Edrington meet its sustainability needs and their target of being carbon neutral by 2030.

Renewable energy, such as wind power, are essential in the efforts to tackle climate change and helping the UK reach ambitious net zero climate targets. Wardlaw Wood Community Wind Farm generates enough green electricity to power 11,800 homes annually and displaces around 20,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum.

EDF are a British energy company with operations in electricity generation and the sale of natural gas and electricity to homes and businesses throughout the UK. This includes the market leading provision of tailored corporate renewable solutions, meeting the needs of business energy consumers.

Community Windpower’s Managing Director, Rod Wood, said: “We are delighted to supply home grown green electricity to an iconic brand.

“Our aim has always been to develop, build and operate assets which help Scotland deliver on its world leading climate change targets. Through our “Buy Scottish” policy we prioritise investment in the Scottish economy across our Group, and this agreement with Edrington is further evidence of our commitment to Scottish businesses.

“EDF’s strong relationships with Scottish businesses such as Edrington ensure our energy is not only meeting local needs but is helping a leading Scottish business achieve its own sustainability goals.”
