Community Windpower recognised as inspirational British business

LSEG's 2020 report

Community Windpower has once again been identified as one of London Stock Exchange Group’s ‘1000 Companies to Inspire Britain’ 2020.

The report recognises 1,000 of the most inspiring and growing companies across the UK, highlighting the regional and sector diversity of the UK’s SMEs and the entrepreneurial spirit shown by these companies.

To be featured in the report, Community Windpower had to demonstrate strong revenue growth over the last three years and outperform our sector peers.

It’s the second time Community Windpower has been included in this annual report.

Rod Wood, Community Windpower’s managing director, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Community Windpower to be once again included in this exclusive list of UK companies, particularly as we were recently recognised as one of the Financial Times’ 1000 Europe’s Fastest Growing Companies.

“The business has grown organically by more than 1,200% over the last 15 years and has invested £750m in building renewable energy projects that provides home-grown clean green electricity to Nestlé UK, ENGIE, EDF and Statkraft.

“In addition, Community Windpower has invested more than £5m in local communities through our BeGreen brand, which has developed and delivered energy efficiency projects, sustainable investment and tangible benefits for local people.

“We work with schools, colleges and universities, to create awareness of the wide range of jobs and careers in the renewable industry, and have employed graduates in our teams, helping them start their careers.

“During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic we have kept a close focus on our core business, developed excellent working relationships with our customers and suppliers and tailored our business to be prepared for the current economic crisis.

“It means we’re now well-placed to provide a significant role in the Green Covid Recovery.

David Schwimmer, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group, said: “This report highlights the vital role of SMEs in driving economic growth, leading innovation and providing jobs across the UK.

“The success of UK SMEs is crucial as we rebuild a post COVID-19 economy, and London Stock Exchange Group is committed to helping growth companies achieve their potential.”

The Rt Hon John Glen MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, said: “SMEs are the engine room of our economy.

“It is more important than ever that we champion the companies in this year’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report and many others like them – they are creating jobs, spurring on our economic recovery, and building the industries of the future.”
