Community Windpower inspires at Chester Careers Carnival

Passion for Learning

Passion for Learning was founded in 2011, officially becoming a charity in 2018 which provides 1:1 enrichment and learning support for primary school children in the surrounding area. They run a myriad of support groups, such as enrichment lessons, trips, activities, career days, and events.

Based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, Passion for Learning hold Careers Carnivals for hundreds of primary school pupils. This year, Community Windpower attended, hoping to inspire the next generation of renewable energy specialists. CWL’s Office Manager, Social Media Manager, and two Project Assistants attended to provide the students with a huge range of career options, with a wind farm development task, colouring sheets, an energy word search, and some turbine technician safety equipment for the students to try.

The response was unequivocal; the students loved it! Finding out about renewable energy was, for some, a completely new thing, however some had learnt about climate change and renewable energy in their Geography and Science lessons at school. For other students who preferred Art, English, or other subjects, they enjoyed the creative tasks and learning about other possible careers such as social media and PR. There was a huge range of companies and careers which attended, such as Cheshire Police, Liverpool Football Club, St John’s Ambulance, Mitchell Group, Qwest, and Chester Zoo.

The feedback was glowing. One teacher from an attending school said they were “eternally grateful for the opportunities” provided for the children, who all had the “best day ever”. Furthermore, the teacher said that the children were shown that “opportunities are endless”, as they enjoyed learning about a massive range of careers.
