Community Windpower Charity Challenge 2022

Helsby Hill

At Community Windpower we take part in a charity challenge each year, comprising of teamwork and physical activity whilst also raising money for a worthy charitable cause.

This year we stayed close to home, exploring the Sandstone Trail which snakes through the landscapes of Cheshire and is accessible from the doorstep of our head office in Frodsham.

This year our trek was organised by Managing Director Rod Wood and Community Benefits Director Diane Wood, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, after staff member Francesca Kay lost her fiancé to a heart attack.

After a two-year hiatus in charity challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this local trek provided the opportunity for us to support Fran through this difficult time.

With printed maps in hand, the team set off to begin our trek up Helsby Hill to a viewpoint which provided panoramic views of the River Mersey. Then we walked through the village of Alvanley, following footpaths and the Sandstone Trail, before a stop for lunch.

The second half of the trek comprised of a hike up the side of Frodsham Hill, where we reached the Frodsham War Memorial and unfurled our Community Windpower banner for a few commemorative pictures. The final section of the walk took us through the town of Frodsham and we ended the day with a cold drink in a pub garden!

We are very happy that the money we raised will go towards funding the amazing life-saving research which the British Heart Foundation undertakes. The BHF aims to ‘beat heartbreak forever’ by improving and saving the lives of people with heart and circulatory diseases.

Community Benefits Director Diane Wood said: “We are glad that we can now resume our yearly charity challenges and work as a big team to raise £3,900 for the BHF in memory of Fran’s fiancé and anyone else affected by heart conditions.

“The 10-mile walk gave everyone the chance to get out of the office into the sunshine, and field some charitable donations from their generous family, friends and from business partners in the industry.

“Charity will always be important to us at Community Windpower, whether it comes in the form of our community benefits fund or getting directly involved to support others.

Despite announcing the total raised the page will remain open for any further last-minute donations – www.JustGiving.com/CWLChallenge2022
