Community Windpower are proud of Sanquhar Academy’s Energy Course Success - 14th December
Community Windpower are proud of Sanquhar Academy’s Energy Course Success Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) are proud to report on the success of Sanquhar Academy’s National 5 Skills for Work: Energy Course following the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) betweenthe School and CWL in June, confirming our long term commitment to work with the Academy.
The National 5 Energy Course commenced in September and provides students with a basis of understanding that allows them to progress into further education, directly into training or employment within the energy sector.
Students explore various UK-based energy industries and develop their practical skills by building small scale systems, including small scale wind turbines. This enables the students to develop valuable employability skills which helps to suggest the best career path for them within the energy sector. As part of the MOU and support for this course, CWL donated interactive wind turbine kits and course stationery to help aid the students learning. These wind turbine kits enabled students to investigate input, output and components, as well as their practical purpose, efficiency and environmental impact and were one way to put theory in to practice. The students have also built a larger scale model based on the knowledge gained by working with the model kits.
Indeed, Ms. McLean (Deputy Head Teacher at Sanquhar Academy) commented that “the Energy Course continues to go well and is proving very popular with the pupils”.
CWL employees thoroughly enjoyed delivering educational presentations to the students at Sanquhar Academy in September. The presentations focused primarily on renewable and non-renewable energy and energy conversion, along with a presentation and case studies on employment opportunities in the renewable energy industry.
CWL look forward to their next visit in 2016, and continuing their partnership with Sanquhar Academy for the long term future as part of their construction and operation of Sanquhar Community Wind Farm.
