Belhaven Community Hospital benefits from Covid-19 fund

Belhaven Community Hospital

During this time of social separation, people in hospital or care homes can often find themselves very restricted on physical visitors.

Instead they rely on technology and each other for entertainment and keeping in touch with friends and family.

Belhaven Community Hospital approached our Covid-19 crisis fund to help increase outside communication for to help benefit the residents in its care home and patients on the other ward.

The hospital, which has been going since 1948, needs extra support now as the normal fundraising activity, which usually takes place throughout the year is unable to happen due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The £2,500 will help buy a tablet to help residents and patients communicate with their families, taking away some of the stress of not being able to physically see each other.

The hospital is also relying on more activities indoors, due to them being unable to get out to do activities.

Therefore, some of the funding will be used to buy arts and crafts supplies, musical instruments and other useful items to keep everyone busy and entertained.

If this social isolation continues for many more weeks the hospital will also use the fund to purchase supplies to enable the residents to get out to the back garden and doing some light gardening.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Aikengall Community Wind Farms in East Lothian, said: “It’s at times like these that we need to support local community organisations, particularly those that are helping and protecting the most vulnerable in our society.

“The Belhaven Community Hospital provides a hugely valued service in the region and we’re really pleased to be able to help, keeping families in touch and residents active during this crisis.

“We know the £2,500 we’ve provided to is going to make a difference right where it’s needed.”
