BeGreen Dunbar and Community Windpower sponsored skier Murdo Watson 2021 update.

Murdo 2021

We have recently had an update from Murdo Watson, the brilliant young talent from East Linton, who has excelled despite a challenging pandemic year.

Through our BeGreen Dunbar centre we have sponsored Murdo financially for the last two years.

Continuing from the unfortunate early finish to the 2019/20 season due to Covid-19 the 2020/21 has also been tough.  The pandemic has caused challenges for many aspiring young skiers and many athletes have been unable to travel and train abroad.

However, Murdo is a full-time athlete with Ambition Racing Academy and with the help of our sponsorship he was able to have a full winter training programme.

The season has been very different for Murdo as there were no children’s races scheduled, but he got the chance to fore-run in some of the races in the FIS racing category. This has presented the opportunity for Murdo to see where he ranks amongst the best from other nations.

Murdo has once again been selected to represent Scotland as an under 18s racer and has the goal of being selected for Great Britain in the near future.

Not only has Murdo been working hard on the slopes, he has been working extremely hard off the slopes, keeping on top of his studies after daily training sessions. This has paid off for Murdo, having achieved excellent results in his National 5 assessments at Dunbar Grammar School.

The artificial/indoor season has now begun in the UK and Murdo has had a promising start in U18s with a 3rd place in Manchester (indoor) and a 1st place at the artificial slope at Hillend. In addition, Murdo is undertaking a structured off-season fitness programme from a specialist ski personal trainer.

Murdo is excited for the year ahead, continuing with Ambition Racing Academy and starting his pre-season training in July with a three-week summer camp to prepare himself for the winter season ahead.

Murdo Watson has said: “I am so very grateful to Community Windpower and BeGreen for their amazing support which helped enable me to get out to the alps to train last season.

“Although there were no races, I was able to train for the full season, making huge progress and setting me up well to compete on the international stage this year.

“I am very much looking forward to the year ahead starting with summer training in the Italian alps in July”.
