An update from Community Windpower regarding Faw Side Community Wind Farm

Community Windpower Limited (CWL), note the decision made by the Scottish Ministers on the 22nd December 2023 to refuse consent for Faw Side Community Wind Farm under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989.

The 45-turbine scheme, in Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders, would have provided a valuable contribution to Scotland’s renewable energy policy objectives, with a generation capacity of 315 megawatts (MW). Furthermore, the scheme would have offset over 22 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over its 40-year operational lifetime, contributing extensively to Scotland’s ‘Net Zero by 2045’ ambition.

Rod Wood, Managing Director at Community Windpower, said: “We are obviously disappointed with this decision; however we are taking time to review the reports and decision. Nonetheless, we remain committed to Scotland’s renewable energy industry, businesses and supply chains.”
