71% of UK consumers say "Environment over Growth" and call for businesses to lead from the front

A survey, by pollsters at Ipsos, asked over 15,000 people in fifteen countries about their attitudes to sustainability. In total 74% of European respondents would accept slower growth for more environmental action.
The survey highlighted that consumers expect business to lead on these issues. Some 64 per cent of respondents in Europe said companies not taking action to curb their environmental impact would experience consumer backlash.
The survey also showed many consumers want to do more to reduce their environmental impact. Across Europe, 60 per cent said they planned to repair products when they break instead of throwing them away in the future.
In the UK, the survey shows that 71% of people said protecting the environment should be a priority even if it slows economic growth. Furthermore, climate change and plastic waste were amongst two of the most concerning environmental issues for UK consumers.
As a company, we are proud to be meeting UK consumer needs by participating in the fight against climate change, and are looking forward to seeing our projects in development joining the fight by reducing carbon emissions.
Faw Side Community Wind Farm could power 328,400 homes and displace over 571,000 tonnes of carbon each year if consented. Furthermore, our Sanquhar II development will provide clean power for a further 364,000 homes and displace over 634,500 tonnes of carbon each year; a combined total of 1.2 million tonnes of carbon being saved each year for the next 35 years, and clean, green electricity for nearly 700,000 homes.
