£1,000 to support Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity

Sunshine Wishes

Community Windpower (CWL) have distributed a direct donation of £1,000 to Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity to support their Christmas Appeal, where they will donate gifts for families in need at this Christmas time.

Sadly, this cost-of-living crisis is forcing families to choose between heating and eating, Christmas gifts or rent, petrol for transport or skyrocketing costs of everything else. Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity (SWCC) believes in spreading happiness and cheer by removing Christmas worries from these families. With funding support from communities, organisations, and businesses, Sunshine Wishes distribute gifts so these children can experience a joyful Christmas even in these hard economic times. This year the charity aims to distribute gifts and treats to 500 children, which is an admirable increase on last year’s incredible figure, where they distributed 400 Christmas gifts to children who would otherwise receive no gifts on Christmas Day.

At the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, too, CWL donated over £4,000 to Sunshine Wishes to help them carry out their valuable work. SWCC works daily to bring joy to terminally ill or underprivileged children, and also children with learning disabilities and additional needs. Aside from this incredible Christmas Appeal, SWCC aid families across Scotland by providing them with food packages, clothing, warm jackets and winter gear for the colder months, electricity top-ups, and cosy bedding so children can sleep peacefully.

Diane Wood, Community Benefits Director at Community Windpower, said: “We are delighted to provide support for Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity once again, as they aim to surpass their amazing work in 2021, where they distributed 400 gifts and countless amounts of Christmas cheer. We hope this direct donation provides a boost to SWCC and we truly wish them all, and the families they assist, a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!”

Linda Ford, General Manager of Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity in Glasgow, said: “A huge thank you to Community Windpower for the funding we received. This will make a huge difference to many children, whom without this generous donation, would have gone without this Christmas. The donation from Community Windpower will be used to purchase age-appropriate toys, books, and sweets for children this Christmas who are living in poverty for one reason or another. This donation will help alleviate the added pressure that Christmas brings. Worries over money, providing the best for your children, and high Christmas expectations can cause a great deal of stress, so this donation will go a long way to helping. When Christmas passes, our work doesn’t stop. Throughout the year, via the constant and increasing referrals we receive from Nurseries and Community groups, we hope to continue aiding children and families with the basic essentials we all take for granted. Also, with our Caravan berthed in Craig Tara Holiday Park, we are sure to be inundated with holiday requests for those children and their families that require some much-needed respite.”
