1,000 grant for new Community Garden in Dalry

Gazebo 3

In July 2021, our Educational Ranger Pete Boustead, ‘chequed’ into the newly opened Dalry Community Garden, set up by the Dalry Community Development Hub, and run by Sheena Woodside and her team of wonderful volunteers.

The previously derelict area of land has been transformed into a colorful oasis full of activity. Community Windpower have directly provided a £1,000 grant towards advancing the recently opened garden further.

The grant has gone towards a new gazebo for the garden to enable the community garden volunteers to host more workshops and events. The garden is a hub of activity, hosting various events through 2021 with the easing of lockdown restrictions.

The garden has hosted a family garden party, willow weaving classes, up-cycling classes, training courses as well as providing a green open space for anyone to come and visit and get involved with in the centre of Dalry.

The amazing volunteers at the garden are made up of people of all ages, including young people on assisted living and some with additional needs. In addition, to the obvious enjoyment of the project it also brings a great deal of health and wellbeing benefits to the local community.

Pete Boustead, Educational Ranger at Community Windpower, said: “We are delighted to be able to help with such an amazing project, it has brought so many positive benefits to the Dalry community during an unprecedented time”.

“It is brilliant to have visited such an amazing retreat and I am pleased that even during the pandemic, innovation is alive and well”.

If you would like to visit the Community Garden, it can be found next to the car park at the top of Smith Street behind the library in Dalry.
