Completed in 2006, Dalry Community Windfarm is located in Wardlaw Wood, approximately 3 miles north west of Dalry in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The windfarm was built using the most technologically advanced turbines currently available in the UK and is currently supplying clean green electricity to the local community.

Planning permission for our second community windfarm project was granted in March 2007 by East Lothian Council and construction commenced in Spring 2008. The 16 3.0 MW turbines will be arriving on-site in September/October 2008 and clean green energy will be generated for the local area by the end of the year.

Inverkip Community Windfarm

A planning application for Inverkip Community Windfarm, located in Leapmoor Forest in Inverkip, Scotland was submitted to Inverclyde Council in July 2006.

However, in response to consultations about the original windfarm design, we are now looking into the possibilities of reducing the windfarm from 10 wind turbines down to 8 turbines. Consultation will take place over the next three months with the communities of Inverkip and Wemyss Bay, prior to the new design being completed.

A planning application for the Millour Hill Community Windfarm was submitted to North Ayrshire Council in October 2006. The proposed development will be an extension to the existing Dalry Community Windfarm, located near Dalry in North Ayrshire. The windfarm will consist of six additional turbines, which will generate enough electricity to power approximately 13,000 homes.

A copy of the Non-Technical Summary and a photomontage from Viewpoint 3 at Kaim Hill, are available to view and download in the Media Centre.

Dalry Carbon Neutral Project funded by Community Windpower, aims to make Dalry one of the first towns in Scotland to be ‘Carbon Neutral’ by 2017. The project will also target those families most likely to be living in fuel poverty with the aim to eliminate fuel poverty by 2012.

Dalry Carbon Neutral Project will be a local project run by local people. We need enthusiastic volunteers who are committed to taking action to tackle climate change.

If you want to make a difference and want to find out more about the project, then please download our Leaflet.

Dunbar Carbon Neutral

Personal carbon-emissions from our homes are contributing to climate change and accelerating global warming. To reduce this personal carbon impact and ease the problems caused by rising fuel prices we all need to be more energy efficient and look for low-carbon or non-carbon alternatives to oil and gas.

Dunbar Carbon Neutral is a non-profit advice-shop opening soon in West Port, Dunbar, to support the town and the region in reducing energy-based carbon-emissions by 10% each year for the next ten years.  As well as protecting the environment for future generations, lower carbon-emissions help reduce the cost of household fuel-bills today. Advice on energy efficiency, alternative energy systems, grant applications, and personal carbon footprints will be available to all, free-of-charge.

Dunbar Carbon Neutral will also be supporting our project partners, who include East Lothian Council and Sustaining Dunbar, in putting an end to the fuel poverty that affects around one in six households in the region.

Davidstow Community Windfarm

Following our community consultation we have now re-designed the  Community windfarm project at Davidstow, North Cornwall.

This is in response to concerns raised by the local community, and the proposed 20 turbines, with a total generating capacity of up to 50MW, now lies solely within Davidstow Woods and the farm land to the South; it no longer occupies any of Davidstow Airfield.

This one windfarm will provide the remaining 50% of Cornwall’s 2010 Renewable Energy Target in a remote area and is sited on the largest and best suited brownfield site in Cornwall. We have updated the community benfits and local investments, and these can be read here.

At Community Windpower we are keen to be as open and transparent as possible and to engage with the local community in this exciting renewable energy proposal. The dedicated and interactive website has been updated to show these revisions, and now includes photomontages pof the project;(www.davidstowcommunitywindfarm.co.uk) it also provides the opportunity to view the proposal in detail and allows the user to leave comments.

Cowans Law Community Windfarm

Community Windpower’s latest project at Cowans Law near Galston in East Ayrshire, will be their largest windfarm yet, consisting of 25 turbines, capable of generating up to 50MW a power. Development plans for the windfarm are in their final stages, with the intention to submit a planning application to East Ayrshire Council by the beginning of August this year.

The company has received great support from residents in the nearby villages of Moscow and Waterside, who had a very positive approach towards both renewable energy and the proposed windfarm during the open day at Hareshaw Community Centre in April. Community Windpower have been keen to involve the local community at all stages of the project and are enthusiastic about providing funding for local community groups and projects.

For more information about the project or to find out how your group can benefit from the community fund please email: info@communitywindpower.co.uk
