Current Status
The Sanquhar Community Windfarm planning application was submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council in April 2010. The application can be viewed at Dumfries and Galloway Council's online planning register.
Where is the proposed site?
The proposed windfarm is located on Black Hill approximately 7km Southwest of Sanquhar and 5km Southwest of Kirkconnel.

Windfarm Layout
Sanquhar Community Windfarm comprises of 18 wind turbines and would generate up to 45 megawatts (MW) of clean, green, locally sourced electricity. The proposed turbines would have a maximum tip height of 126.5m.

Environmental Benefits
Sanquhar Community Windfarm would generate electricity to power over 25,000 homes and would displace over 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum.
Community Benefits
As part of the Sanquhar Community Windfarm, £75,000 will be provided for Community Benefits which could include the BeGreen Energy Advice Service, an Educational Ranger to work with local schools specializing in the delivery of environmental topics, funding for environmental and eco-friendly community projects, educational presentations, student bursaries and sponsorship for community events.
