Current Status
Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) is pleased to announce that their plans for the Claughton Moor Community Windfarm have been reviewed and a revised appplication has been developed.
The original planning application which consisted of 20 turbines was dismissed by Lancaster City Council earlier this year. However CWL have taken on board the comments of key stakeholders and local communities and have now substantially altered the scheme. The revised proposal consists of 13 turbines and would generate typically 39MW of clean, green, locally sourced electricity.
Public Exhibitions to explain how the original application was revised along with details of the new proposal were held on:
- Tuesday 17th August 2010:
- 9.30am - 1pm in Hornby Village Institute; followed by
- 2pm - 7.30pm in the Victoria Institute, Caton.
Where is the proposed site?
The proposed windfarm is located on Claughton and Whit Moor, approximately 5km east of Caton and 10km east of Lancaster in Lancashire. The proposed windfarm would stand adjacent to the existing Caton Moor Windfarm which has been present in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for the last 15 years.

Environmental Benefits
Claughton Moor Community Windfarm would generate electricity to power over 22,000 homes and would displace approximately 44,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum. The electricity generated would be fed directly in to the United Utilities electricity network and all cables will be underground.
Community Benefits
Although the original scheme has been reduced, the proposed Community Benefits would remain with benefits including an Educational Ranger to work with local schools, funding for environmental and eco-friendly community projects, educational presentations, student bursaries and sponsorship for community events.
Additionally the BeGreen LowerLune Energy Advice Service is still running and in partnership with Estate Energy Solutions, loft and cavity wall insulation totalling over £4500 has been installed locally which has been funded by BeGreen LowerLune.
