Aikengall IIa

Current Status

Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm was given planning consent by the Scottish Government in October 2016.

Project Progress

Planning conditions for the wind farm are currently in the process of being prepared ready for discharge.

Project Information

The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 75.5 MW to generate clean, green electricity.

Site Location

Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm is located on the border of East Lothian and Scottish Borders, approximately 12.5 km south of Dunbar and 6 km south of Innerwick. The wind farm will form an extension of Community Windpower’s operational Aikengall and under construction Aikengall II Community Wind Farms.

Wind Farm Layout

Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm will comprise of 19 wind turbines. 18 of these wind turbines will have a tip height of 145 metres and a generating capacity of 4MW, whilst 1 wind turbine will have a tip height of 125 metres and a generating capacity of 3.5 MW.

Environmental Benefits

Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm will generate enough electricity to power approximately 49,600 homes and will displace around 85,300 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per annum.

Economic Benefits

Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm will provide annual community benefit funding equivalent to £5,000 per MW of installed capacity for the planning permission of the wind farm. Based on an installed capacity of 75.5 MW, this equates to £377,500 per annum, totalling around £9,437,500 during the 25 year operational period for the local host communities.
