Wind Power to homes on Orkney Islands - 22nd July

Houses on the Orkney Islands are going to be offered the chance to be part of a scheme to introduce smart heating systems designed to make use of excess power produced from a local wind turbine. The heat smart Orkney project yesterday secured £1.2m of funding through the Scottish Government's Local Energy Challenge Fund.

Participating properties will be invited to recieve a home assessment followed by the installing of energy-efficient heating devices that are linked via the internet to a "cloud control centre". The control centre will also be linked to the islands community owned wind turbine in Rousey, which is currently being frequently turn off due to the excessive amounts of energy it produces and exceeding demand required from the local gird.
