Wind energy to supply more than 12% of Europe’s electricity supply - 29th July

Long

Wind energy is set to supply more than 12% of Europe’s electricity supply by 2020.

In 2014 the cumulative capacity of wind energy connected to the EU grid reached 129GW, matching 8% of European electricity demand. This is the equivalent to the combined annual consumption of Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece and Ireland.

Due to the growth of the industry at least 12% of Europe’s electricity could be produced by wind power. Which is a significant contribution to the European energy and climate goal of producing 20% of energy from renewable sources. Wind power has seen the widest and most successful growth of all the renewable energies, having increased its global cumulative capacity from 3 GW to 370 GW.
