UK wind industry reaches new milestone - 9th December

Wind Record

Onshore and offshore wind farms in the UK have passed a record output of 10,000 MW for the first time.

National Grid figures show that the UK's wind industry had a record output of 10,104 MW between 2pm and 2.30pm on the 8th December.  This accounts for 23% of the total electricity demand across Britain.

Emma Pinchbeck, RenewableUK Executive Director said "wind is playing an increasingly central role as a reliable part of our new modern energy system".

The new figures come at a time where there is no clear route to market for onshore wind projects following the removal of subsidies and additional planning barriers.
