March marks a record-breaking month for Scottish wind farms - 3rd March

Wind power generated the equivalent of 58% of Scottish electricity needs last month, with output figures increasing by 81% than figures recorded in March 2016. On both the 17th and 19th of March, wind turbines generated output equivalent to 102 and 130% of Scottish electricity needs.

This new record for March has led to renewed calls for more wind farms to be built to keep in line with cutting carbon emission in the most cost-effective method. WWF Scotland’s director Lang Banks noted that the figures “shows the importance of continuing increase capacity by building new wind farms”, as well as going on comment on supporting Scottish jobs as a result of renewable energy and its wider infrastructure.
