Low carbon power key to Britain’s growth – 9th October

The upcoming clean growth plan will unveil low carbon power as being central to British economic and industrial productivity, ensuring a sustainable and productive future. The upcoming plan aims to drive growth in key sectors where the UK can become a world-leader, as well as aligning industry to making sure that the UK meets its carbon reduction objectives.

Over the next 4 years, £246m is due to be committed to the development of electric vehicle batteries which comes amidst the banning of new sales of combustion engine vehicles from 2040. By 2030, it is suggested that half of new car sales in the UK will be electric which will have positive implications towards reducing carbon emissions and air pollution from transport. This shift will stimulate new investment into the automotive sector, which has synergies with the energy industry which could also store power and reduce costs.
