Growth in UK wind industry employment – 12th November

British wind is delivering jobs and investment according to RenewableUK’s latest annual report.

Latest figures show that in the last year, employment within the UK wind industry has grown by 8%.  In addition to this, the wind sector now delivers £2.6 billion of annual investment.  RenewableUK said 2,250 jobs had been created within the British medium and large scale wind industry to bring the number of direct, full time jobs to more than 15,400.

The findings, released at RenewableUK’s annual conference, show annual investment has now reached £1.6 billion for onshore wind and £1 billion for the offshore sector.  Moreover, in the year to June 2014, 1.1 GW of capacity was added by the onshore sector with a further 332 MW added through offshore wind.

Speaking of the findings, RenewableUK Chief Executive Maria McCaffery said “Nearly two and a half thousand people have joined the UK wind industry’s dynamic, highly motivated workforce over the last year.  That’s a growth rate that most other sectors can only dream of.  Renewables is the employment engine of the future”.
