Energy Bill Goes Live - 10th July 2015

Amber Rudd

The UK Government has published the Energy Bill this morning which confirms the early end to the Renewables Obligation for onshore wind. As expected the Bill confirms the amendment for planning procedures for all wind farms over 50MW in England and Wales going back to local authorities. The First Reading of the Bill took place yesterday in the House of Lords, with the Second Reading scheduled for July 22.

British Wind have said that the government need to “come clean as to how it will fulfil its promises to promote low carbon investment and keep costs down for consumers.” As they are “currently giving very confusing messages to communities, developers and investors."
