Dunbar Christmas Lights Funding - 14th December

dunbar

Community Windpower played a big part in Dunbar’s Christmas Lights this year. Not only did we help provide funding for the Christmas Market we also donated a significant sum of money to the Christmas Lights Committee.

Dunbar has one of the biggest lights displays in East Lothian and families from far and wide attend the magnificent event. This year included a Santa’s grotto, fire jugglers, Dunbar Lyric Group and Monktonhall Brass Band to name but a few.

Unfortunately the market itself had to be cancelled due to weather, but the light switch on was well attended and enjoyed by everyone especially by the three local children that won a competition to hit the big button!!

The lights were a few down this year so the £5000 that has been donated will help massively towards next year’s display.

The Community Windpower donation will enable the continuation of the upgrade plan through 2016 to be carried out by the dedicated team of Christmas Lights volunteers. The existing filament lamps & rope light will be replaced with LED lamps, fairy and rope lights. A proportion of plugs, power leads and accessories will also be upgraded to current industry standards. These upgrades will help extend the durability of the lights, reduce energy consumption and lower the maintenance requirement.

Sue Anderson, Community Councillor who liaises with the Christmas Lights Sub-Committee expressed her gratitude "The efforts of the Lights team to upgrade the lights have received a real boost thanks to this generous donation from Community Windpower. Improving energy efficiency is a top priority for the Lights and so there is a real synergy between the aims of both the Lights & Community Windpower.  The Community Council is delighted that Community Windpower have recognised this and are supporting Dunbar's hugely popular Lights."
