CWL's West College Scotland student placement was a huge success! 25th October

Students

Two weeks have passed since we welcomed Jack and Erin to the head office of CWL. We were thrilled to have introduced them to the world of engineering at CWL and allow them both to experience what it takes to be an engineer of tomorrow!

Jack and Erin applied and exercised their engineering skills during the development, construction and operation phases of wind farm projects. They were able to attend various meetings and workshops in order to develop new or enhance their current experiences in the renewable energy industry.

“After spending two weeks with CWL spread across the Operations, Technical and Project Development teams, we have both had a great insight into what working for the renewables sector is like. We both had different expectations of what the company does in their day to day operations, we have now been shown how interesting work in the renewable energy industry can be.

We have had a number of workshops delivered by CWL on different software packages such at GIS, AutoCAD, Excel, Windfarm, and Clir. We were also shown how to gather and interpret complex data from online sources, such as Natural Power, and display this appropriately using spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and daily/weekly reports. This will be very beneficial to us and will be great to put on our CV to help us gain employment.

Another highlight was being able to attend various internal and external meetings and conferences, such as meeting with the two largest wind turbine manufacturers, Vestas and Siemens Gamesa.”

“Before this work placement, I wasn’t entirely sure what sector I wanted to end up in after my studies.  After seeing the difference to climate change a company like Community Windpower Ltd is making and how rewarding it is, I now know I want to work in the renewable energy industry after my education.” - Jack

“I have always wanted to work within the renewable energy sector, but working in an office was never a job that I had wanted to do before. Since being here and learning how involved you can be it has changed my mind and working somewhere like Community Windpower seems like an amazing position.” - Erin

It is wonderful to hear the positive outcomes of our partnership work with West College Scotland and are delighted that CWL can play an active part in developing the young workforce. The placement helps to identify students’ strengths, highlights areas of improvement and provides students with the tools and experiences that can be readily transferred to their first step of their careers in the renewable energy industry.

We would like to wish Jack and Erin the very best in their careers. We are confident that they will make exceptional engineering of the future and be an integral part of the renewable energy industry.
