Community Windpower are delighted to have provided a two week work placement for students from West College Scotland.

The two week work placement involved spending half of their time working with the Operations/Technical team, and the other half with the Projects team, both based at our head office in Frodsham.

On the Projects team the students were taken through the site selection process and taught about the various constraints which are considered by developers. With the Operations/Technical team, the students were offered an insight into how SCADA data works, and is used to produce operational reports and is later used for analysis.

During the work placement, the students were also shown around our currently under construction Sanquhar Community Wind Farm to give an important insight into the construction process of a wind farm.

Lecturer Thomas Haughey from West College Scotland said of the placement “The students are energised and full of vigour and I know they will put their new found knowledge to good use. For me it is the best placement that a young student could gain, giving them working experience in the Renewables sector along with life skills.”

We wish the students all the best for the future and hope that their time spent with CWL provided them some useful experience of how sites are developed, constructed and operated which should aid their future career decisions. CWL look forward to continuing the student placement schemes with West College Scotland in the near future.
