CWL determined to continue wind energy progress as the sector passes 20 GW Milestone 4th October

jgf

Following the completion of the 659MW Walney Extension, the total capacity for wind energy has passed the 20 GW milestone for the UK. This is a massive achievement for the wind energy sector, which is now capable of powering more than 14 million homes per year and is responsible for reducing carbon emissions by as much as 25 million tonnes a year.

Continued progress for the entire sector is important as we all aim to achieve green energy for communities across the UK. New projects keep Community Windpower (CWL) striving to perform their very best, with new ideas and innovations being brought to us each year.

Wind energy accounts for more than 50% of total renewables energy and 15% of total energy in the UK for 2017 . As we continue to work towards 100% Sottish renewables by 2020, CWL have several exciting opportunities arising such as the Sanquhar II Community Wind Farm. With a proposed capacity aim of over 400MW, it signals our largest capacity windfarm to date. The proposed Sanquhar II scheme will provide 330,000 homes each year with green energy and support local businesses through our “Buy Scottish” policy.

If you would like further information about the Sanquhar II development and how it may impact you, please email projects@communitywindpower.co.uk.
