CWL delighted to provide employability presentations to local students - 14th September 2018

Presentation to Wallacehall Academy

Employees from Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) enjoyed providing careers and employability presentations to students of both Wallacehall Academy and Dumfries & Galloway College this week.

The presentation covered the processes and work involved with the entire lifespan of a wind farm; from the initial site selection processes all the way to the maintenance of an operational wind farm. As part of our commitment to supporting education, employment and investment in Scotland, the presentations were designed to provide the students with valuable real-world insight within the industry and introduce the wide-ranging set of roles involved within renewable energy.

The presentations were organised in connection with Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway, and Programme Manager Senga Greenwood said that “we’ve enthused a number of young turbine technical students who showed real interest…” and that the presentations “…engender(ed) a positive spirit and contribution that wind farms make to the economy, the green grid and wider employment”. CWL were delighted to see the students fully engaged with the presentations, and to see several students interested in the possible routes into the renewable energy industry.

The presentations had special relevance to the students due to the proximity of our Sanquhar Community Wind Farm which was officially opened in July. In line with our ‘Buy Scottish’ policy, the enabling works at Sanquhar Community Wind Farm were undertaken by local Dumfries-based AMD Contract Services Ltd, which allowed the company to employ an extra 6 staff and 2 CITB apprentices from the local area.

CWL hope that the students enjoyed the presentations, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Developing Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway, Wallacehall Academy and Dumfries & Galloway College in the future.
