Cuts to greenhouse gas emissions limited due to a value-action gap, warns UN report 31st October

Ahead of the COP23 conference in Bonn next week, the UN has reported that despite promising pledges, current progress to meeting the 2°C commitment of the 2015 Paris Agreement is not on target with temperatures instead set to rise by 3°C by the end of the century.

The UN report calls for urgent action to invest in technologies to move away from the current forecast of 3°C through projects such as renewable energy schemes to reduce fossil fuel usage as well as tightening building standards to ensure that heat efficiency reduces energy demand.

Aside from governmental intervention, the report suggests that private sector companies could take the initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through improving and updating business practices and efficiency measures.
