Could Bladeless turbines be the way forward? - 3rd June 2015

Bladeless Turbine

A new bladeless wind turbine that promises to be more efficient, less visually intrusive, and safer for birdlife than conventional turbines has been welcomed by two of the UK wind energy industry’s most vocal critics.

The RSPB and the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), who both currently express concerns with large scale wind turbines due to their impacts on both wildlife and landscape and visual issues, has said the new bladeless turbines will have a posititve effect on bird populations and also will potential open up urban environments as potential locations for siting turbines.

The turbines which have been developed by Vortex Bladeless, a Spanish developer, are said to have no moving parts and less prone to vibrations. They hope these advances will help to usher in a viable customer wind power market.

The developers hope to be able to bring these turbines to peoples homes as an alternative option to Solar Power.
