Community Windpower donate £1,000 to the 2016 Sanquhar Riding of the Marches event - 23rd May
Community Windpower Limited (CWL) are delighted to continue our commitment to the Upper Nithsdale communities by donating £1,000 to the 2016 Sanquhar Riding of the Marches event, being held in August this year.
The Sanquhar Riding of the Marches is a fantastic celebration with crowds turning out in large numbers from the surrounding district and much further afield to see events held throughout the week. This year the week of events starts on Friday 5th August with the main day being held on Saturday 13th August. The main day is packed with great events including an early start to follow the Burgh piper, swearing in of the New Cornet, the coronation of the Sanquhar Queen and a colourful parade of decorated floats and bands proceed round the Burgh. The day continues with a full afternoon of free entertainment held in Lorimer Park followed by massed bands along the High Street. This year the event ends on Sunday 14th August, with a torch light procession and fireworks display.
Norman Burns (Chair of the Sanquhar Riding of the Marches Committee) stated, “Once again the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar Riding of the Marches Association appreciate the kind sponsorship for the 2016 Riding of the Marches from Community Windpower Ltd. The £1,000 will assist with associated costs for the field entertainment and pipe bands for the main day on the 13th August. Community Windpower have made a great effort within the communities of Upper Nithsdale and have been involved with Day of the Region, Kelloholm Gala, Upper Nithsdale Times and also work closely with our schools. As chairman of the Riding of the Marches we very much appreciate this very kind gesture of this sponsorship”.
CWL look forward to attending the 2016 event as we have done for the past few years. The 2015 event saw the main attraction of the day being the stunt show by “Flyin’ Ryan”. This family stunt group showed off many amazing tricks on a variety of dirt bikes and motorcycles utilising CWL’s car for their final stunt!
CWL are committed to communities in the Upper Nithsdale area through their consented Sanquhar Community Wind Farm and the proposed Sanquhar ‘Six’ Community Wind Farm.
